Review of Research on the Micronutrient Requirement of Sugarcane in Southern Africa

چکیده
A review is given of the research on micronutricnts in the South African sugar industry, with special reference to zinc (Zn), iron (Fe) and manganese (Mn). The results of a number of field experiments are summarised and the rncasured responses related to tlie micronutrient content of third leaf samples. The main outcomes of a recent survey of the micronutrient status of 2 000 fields throughout the industry are reported and compared with the results of other surveys conducted between 1967 and 1990.

Assessment of phyllochron and leaf development indices of sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum L.) cultivars in southern Khuzestan climatic conditions
Identify the indices of leaf growth and development and study of phyllochron in commercial cultivars of sugarcane with the aim of better management of agricultural practices is very important. A field experiment was conducted in Amir Kabir Agroindustry in the south of Khuzestan, Iran in 2015-16 in randomized complete block design with three replications. The sugarcane cultivars included; CP69-1...
متن کاملRole of micronutrients and natural antioxidants in fighting against HIV; a quick mini-review
Oxidative stress has been implicated in the progression of HIV to AIDS, since HIV usually replicates in a highly oxidized condition and CD4+ T lymphocytes can be activated via a cascade of internal oxidative pathways, which enhances the formation of proteins and enzymes. Thus, antioxidants should potentially be useful for the treatment and prevention of HIV infection as a new alterna...
متن کاملCurrent Status of Research on Sugarcane Yellow Leaf Syndrome in Southern Africa
In the 1960s, yellowing symptoms in sugarcane were seen throughout East Africa. This was called yellow-wilt, a condition first described in Tanzania in 1962. The symptoms appear identical to those of Yellow Leaf Syndrome (YLS). In South Africa symptoms of YLS were first observed in 1994 and were conspicuous in varieties CP66/1043, N22 and N26, intermediate in N27 and less conspicuous in NCo37...
متن کاملReview of Research into the Role of Silicon for Sugarcane Production
Although silicon (Si) is one of the most abundant elements found in the earth’s crust, it is mostly inert and only slightly soluble and available to plants. With the exception of potassium, sugarcane is known to take up more Si than any other mineral nutrient, with the potential to accumulate up to 400 kg ha of Si, in a 12-month old irrigated crop. This paper documents some of the more importan...
متن کاملImplication of Micronutrients in Agriculture and Health with Special Reference to Iron and Zinc
The green revolution fulfilled the food demand of crowded millions. From the time of green revolution to till date high yielding and fertilizer responsive varieties have evolved to increase the production per unit area. To improve the productivity only major nutrients are concentrated almost in all crops. Though the importance of micronutrient realized during past decades in most of the crops b...
